The actor will take to the stage at the next Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next month
Outlander star Sam Heughan is to take on a new role as the official DJ at Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games next month. Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser on the hit show, will entertain attendees at the SEC Armadillo on July 24 when the first medal of the Games will be presented at the Para Powerlifting session.
It marks Heughan’s debut DJ gig, and the star has turned to one of Scotland’s best-known disc jockeys, George Bowie, to learn the tricks of the trade. DJ Bowie currently presents the breakfast show and the GBX show on Bauer radio station Clyde 1 and has even been awarded an MBE for services to broadcasting.
Sam joined George for a crash course on a rooftop in Glasgow, learning how to get a Scottish crowd going. Captured in a hilarious video, this includes an attempt to remix No Scotland No Party with inspiration from Tartan army in the United States.
Heughan said: “Scottish fans are the best in the world – you only have to look at what’s happening across the pond right now to see that. I’m excited to see the crowd at a home game get behind Team Scotland like they did in 2014.
“DJ’ing doesn’t come naturally to my wheelhouse, so it was only right to learn from the best. Thanks to George showing me the ropes, I’m ready for my big moment. I won’t give too much away as I’ll leave a few tunes up my sleeve, but it’s safe to say we’ll boogie.”

According to Bowie, creating the right atmosphere as a DJ is less about technical skill and more about “instinct and energy”. “We worked on the set list together and it’s safe to say there’s a few bangers in there,” Bowie teased.
“I know more about heartburn than being a heartthrob, so I’m sure the crowd at SEC Armadillo will be delighted that it’s Sam behind the decks.
“A home game is typically a one-of-a-kind experience, so like any glass man, I feel incredibly lucky that they’re coming back. We’re going to make the most of it and it’s going to be the biggest party in town.”
Last November, Heughan was appointed to Glasgow 2026’s first celebrity ambassador, participating in an advertising ad that captured the power of major sporting events to turn a nation into superfans.
Anticipation is building for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, which take place between July 23 and August 2, 2026, with tens of thousands already securing tickets when they were released last October. Glasgow is set to welcome 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories to compete in world-class sporting events across 10 sports and six para-sports during the 11-day event.
It comes as Outlander reached its conclusion last month, airing its final episode, bringing the beloved TV show to an end after a successful 12-year run. Following this, fans have been wondering what Heughan has in store for the future.
However, Sam has kept busy expanding his award-winning spirits brand The Sassenach and marched as the grand marshal in the 2026 NYC Tartan Pride parade.
On screen, he is set to star in Embassy, a six-part thriller series which also stars Hollywood names JK Simmons and Anna Kendrick.
