Hall & Oates star Daryl Hall has shared a health update with fans after quietly undergoing a kidney transplant. The 79-year-old, who previously performed with bandmate John Oates, issued a statement about Instagram on Tuesday and explained that he went under the knife “a few weeks ago”.
On his social media page, the Out of Touch singer began: “I thought you should know that I recently received a kidney transplant from a very kind and generous living donor.
“It happened a few weeks ago and I’m already starting to feel better. It was, according to my doctors, a complete success! I should be back to normal in a few months, so get ready for more music and lots of Daryl’s House shows. Take care everyone!”
Although Daryl didn’t give further details about what led to his surgery, fans quickly flooded the comments below wishing him a speedy recovery. One commented: “Wow, I couldn’t be happier to hear this! I pray for a full and complete recovery for you Daryl.”
“Prayers to you Daryl, thanks for the update. Many of us have been worrying about you in what seems like a long absence. Please take care and heal well,” another replied.
“I’m SO sorry to hear this, but I’m glad to know you’re on the mend! I thought you’d been very quiet lately. Not what I expected,” one Instagram user agreed. “Please accept my sincere thoughts and best wishes for a speedy recovery.”
As one social media follower added: “Oh my dear Daryl, I’m praying for a successful recovery. My best wishes and positive vibes to you D. Thank you so much for sharing.”
Although it is not clear when Daryl will return to the studio, his last album came in 2024, with the release of D.
His most recent live performance was last August when he took the stage at the Minnesota State Fair. However, he has no plans to reunite with former bandmate John Oates anytime soon after they announced their musical separation in 2023.
“As time went on, as we both got older and our life experiences changed, our relationship changed, we started not having the same goals anymore,” his bandmate previously stated. “That’s really what happened.”
