The war of words between sports media personalities Dan Le Batard and Craig Carton is making headlines again.
After years of trading public shots, the long-time rivals have reignited their feud following a series of scathing comments from Carton that quickly drew an equally scathing response from Le Batard.
The latest exchange has become another chapter in one of sports media’s most personal rivalries.
Karton launches blister attack
The latest round began during Carton’s WFAN radio show when a caller mentioned Le Batard’s name.
Cardboard did not hold back.
He described the former ESPN host as a “woke scumbag” and a “talentless hack”, while also criticizing Le Batard’s career and questioning the success of his media company.
Carton argued that Le Batard had positioned himself as a moral authority despite, in his view, the results lacking to justify this role.
The comments quickly spread across social media and sports media circles.

Le Batard delivers a sharp answer
Le Batard wasted little time addressing the remarks during his own show.
Instead of immediately reacting with anger, he opened with sarcasm.
“Woke? I’ll take it. No talent? It’s subjective,” joked Le Batard, before addressing Carton’s harsher criticism.
Then he turned the conversation to Carton’s past legal troubles.
Noting that Carton served more than a year in prison, Le Batard said it was only very heavy to be called a “scum” by someone with that history.
He added that if Carton saw that description in the mirror every morning, he would have far more expertise on the subject than Le Batard ever could.
The comments immediately sparked a debate across the sports media.
A feud years in the making
The tension between the two personalities is nothing new.
Le Batard has repeatedly criticized Carton over the legal issues that led to his conviction and prison sentence, and often referred to that chapter in Carton’s life when discussing his return to broadcasting.
When Carton landed a role at Fox Sports in 2023, Le Batard openly questioned the decision, repeatedly referring to him as “the man who went to jail.”
Carton clearly never forgot these remarks.

Personal stories continue to fuel the conflict
Today, both men have moved into different phases of their careers.
Carton has become involved in responsible gambling initiatives through his work with FanDuel, using his own experiences to raise awareness of gambling addiction and available resources for those seeking help.
Le Batard, meanwhile, co-founded Meadowlark Media with former ESPN president John Skipper, expanding his independent media platform after leaving ESPN.
Despite their professional successes, the personal tension between the two is still alive.

No signs of the rivalry abating
Given the history between Carton and Le Batard, this latest exchange is unlikely to be the last.
Both have built careers around offering strong opinions and aren’t afraid to challenge each other publicly.
When one mentions the other, sports media fans can almost expect another round of headlines to follow.

This feud has become deeply personal, and neither side seems interested in backing down. Craig Carton’s comments were almost certain to provoke a response and Dan Le Batard delivered one just as forcefully. At this point, each new exchange seems to add another layer to a rivalry that’s been simmering for years, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the back-and-forth continues.
