A movie is coming that involves January 6 Capitol riots of 2021.

Sean Penn is set to direct and write the screenplay for the previously unknown film, and Bradley Cooper is in negotiations with star, although no agreement has yet been reached per Deadline.

The film will “follow the early life of a policeman who goes on to be caught up in the Capitol riots of January 6.”

More from Deadline:

The project has been described to us as an unexpected story of friendship. But it will work on several levels. Based on one of the real-life cops caught in the Capitol attack, the project is believed to have buy-in from its subject, but their identities are being kept secret for now.

We’re told the focus is on the subject’s early journey, one that led him to later become an American hero in the eyes of many. It’s not a ‘6. January movie’ in itself. Still, given the still-divisive terrain, the political climate, and the studio’s potential new owners, it’s a commendable commitment from Warner Bros, which has seen great success recently with bold original stories.

The film is set to begin production sometime in mid-2027.

Sean notably attended a 2022 House Select Committee hearing and claimed he was “just another citizen” observe the case. He was seen talking to a former DC police officer Michael Fanonewere beaten and badly injured during the disturbances.

Deadline points out that while it has not been confirmed whether the officer would be the subject of the film, his story is “a compelling one.” He also wrote about his life in the memoir Hold the line.

Stay tuned as we await further details regarding the plot, cast and release date.
