Sabrina Carpenter has been granted a long-term restraining order against a man she claims repeatedly tried to enter her home.
Among other restrictions, William Applegate, 31, is now ordered to stay at least 100 meters from the “Manchild” singer, her sister and her sister’s partner – who both live with her – as well as to refrain from possessing firearms or attempting to communicate with Carpenter, according to the Associated Press.
Applegate — who appeared in court without a lawyer — said during a hearing that he and the carpenter needed to “be together as soon as possible” because they are part of a classified military program that oversees “national and global security,” the outlet reported.
Although Carpenter was supposed to testify remotely, the 27-year-old pop star was ultimately not called to do so.
According to the outlet, Applegate allegedly tried to enter Carpenter’s Los Angeles home more than a dozen times.
In a petition, the “Girl Meets World” alum claimed Applegate was arrested after punching a security guard and reaching her front door last month. He returned days later.
On May 29, the judge issued a temporary restraining order, the outlet reported.
According to the AP, Applegate admitted to being at Carpenter’s residence and insisted the “Espresso” singer wanted him there, saying her team and authorities were working against him.
The outlet reported that Applegate said he’s “more than willing” to avoid the Grammy winner if she told him directly — though he also reportedly wrote in a counter-filing that Carpenter had tried to communicate with him by looking directly at him while she sang. during her Coachella set in April.
Attorney Blair Berk, who represents the singer, reportedly told Judge David L. Wasserman that Carpenter “is in fear for her own personal safety and the safety of members of her family” because of Applegate’s actions.
“I understand that it is your belief that in order to save the world, you and the petitioner must be together,” Judge Wasserman reportedly said during the trial, stressing that he expects Applegate to “obey the order, not what you think is right, not what you think the military is commanding you.”
According to the AP, it does not appear that charges have been filed against Applegate, although a criminal investigation is underway.
