The Love Island star sparked backlash after a controversial comment he made on the show
A dump Love Island star has set the record straight after backlash following his “disrespectful” comment.
Tensions continue to rise in the luxury villa with unexpected twists and brutal exits. Just this week, newcomers Halle and Chidi were dumped from the island after barely settling in, after a tense vote among the islanders.
Their exit came shortly after Sam and Namibia were forced to leave after the four newcomers were tasked with stealing a partner, ultimately leaving them single and therefore dumped.
As the chaos continues in the villa, a Love Island star have opened up about their time on the show and opened up about a comment that sparked backlash.
Appearing on Love Island’s The Debrief vodcast, Sam Workman was asked about the moment he kissed Victoria on the patio before telling Namibia he’d rather have been her.
At the time, fans were outraged when one person said on X: “Sam is just disrespectful the way he talked about Victoria Namibia . No one forced you to kiss her.”
Another wrote: “They were all babies Sam without reason. He’s going crazy… he didn’t tell Namibia that he wished he kissed her instead of Victoria, and now he said he aleays would kiss Victoria.”
A third echoed: “Remember that one kiss together and victoria had on the terrace he told the boys that he kissed her bcos she was flirting and not bcos he liked her and wanted to go along Namibia . now she has done the same Namibia . together playing a big game.”
A fourth wrote: “Err sorry felt bad for Sam before but can’t stand it. Rude behaviour.”
But, setting the record straight, Sam told hosts Toni, Yas and Shakira: “I’d like to clean this up a bit so I kissed Victoria on the terrace and then I came down and told Namibia I’d rather have kissed her instead.”
Toni replied: “We were mad at you for that one”, as Sam continued: “I understand but what you didn’t see is all the boys came over and Ope said to me ‘oh she just said the same thing to me as she said to you, she asked me to go on the terrace first’.
“So then I came down and thought oh, I’m not interested now, she’s just playing with me.” A stunned Namibia joked, “So whether it was true or not…don’t use me in your little games.”
Sam added: “It turned out it was all a bit of a miscommunication. I said it, and it’s probably the wrong thing to say, but it wasn’t as bad as it looks, I don’t think.”
Host Shakira admitted she was “angry” at him after the comments, as Yas agreed she believed the boys were “corrupting him”.
Love Island airs Sunday to Friday at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX
