Kate Ferdinand’s stepson Tate, 17, ‘hated’ her and lied about her to dad Rio


Kate and Rio Ferdinand live successfully as a blended family, but it hasn’t always been that way.

Kate Ferdinand’s stepson “hated” her and lied about her to dad Rio, the reality star has revealed. The former Manchester United defender married the former TOWIE star in 2019, and they have two children themselves – Cree, five, and Shae, two.

But Rio was previously married to late wife Rebecca Ellison, who sadly died in 2015 of breast cancer after they welcomed three children. And Kate has been honest about his struggles when it came to Rio’s eldest children.

Tate, 17, has admitted that initially he made things difficult for him sheep and Kate; admitted he lied when he said the now 35-year-old met random men. He also falsely claimed that she had locked him and his siblings in a room.

But talking about this week’s edition of Kate’s Blended podcastadmitted Tate that he had felt “so guilty” about liking Kate. He said he felt his loyalty should lie with his late mother, reports the Mirror.

Kate and Tate both reflected on the “hell journey” they’ve been on over the years during the chat. And he even said he hated her at times.

Kate also retold the story of how Rio’s eldest children felt jealous. She explained how a delivery containing a gift for the former soccer player leading to Tate accusing her of ‘meeting random men on the drive’.

The former reality TV star explained: “One time I got a phone call to Rio and the kids were sleeping… someone came to drop it on the drive and they’re a man.

“Tate told people that when dad’s not around, I meet men on the drive. So a few people thought that when Rio was out, I met random guys on the drive.”

Tate then admitted that she simply “had a hater in the house”. He said, “I used to be so jealous. Not jealous, I don’t even know the word, but I would try to get into your whole business.”

Kate shared another story explaining how she had tried to hide a Valentine’s Day balloon delivery from Rio’s children. She said the situation “spiralled out of control” when the youngsters tried to say their new stepmother had “locked them in a room”.

Trying to explain his actions, Tate told Kate: “I was just in such a confused state of mind. I didn’t know what was going on. Dad didn’t really like to surprise us with things like that.

“So it was kind of a weird thing like, ‘Why am I being asked to stay here for five minutes?’ You come back as if nothing happened.”

And he later continued, “I remember when I hated you. I hated you. And then maybe we could do something good, and then I’d immediately go back to loving mode, and then I’d almost have to lie about what I did before to get out of it.

“I felt so guilty for liking Kate and loving Kate. I felt guilty for my mother’s family, for my mother.

The feelings lasted for a number of years, but Tate now admits that the pair have a good relationship. And Kate admitted that she fondly remembers the moment she felt theirs relationship blooms.

“I remember the day it changed and you were like ‘that’s my stepmom’, I was like ‘oh my god, I’m not his aunt anymore’.”
