Music legend remains ‘very ill and in intensive care’ after medical emergency

A longtime pop music vocalist is currently still hospitalized undergoing emergency bowel surgery and being put in a coma in May.

Bonnie Tyler, the singer behind the iconic song “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” is still receiving medical attention in Portugal, according to the latest update from her “family and team.” A statement about Tyler’s website noted that she is out of a coma and recovering. However, she still has a long recovery ahead of her.

“Bonnie is no longer in a coma but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal,” the statement read. “Although her condition is improving, it is a slow process. Her doctors are still confident that she will recover well, but it will take time.”

Reps went on to note that they are canceling all of Tyler’s concerts through August, but they “remain hopeful” that planned fall concerts will still take place.

They closed the note by saying the 75-year-old “Holding Out for a Hero” singer “is aware” of the well wishes she has received since becoming ill.

“We want to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support from around the world that we have received for Bonnie and want to let you know that she is aware and very grateful for your well wishes,” the reps wrote. “Bonnie’s family continues to ask for privacy and promises that we will issue further updates as soon as there are significant developments to share.”
