Craig Gordon enjoyed an emotional family reunion after Scotland’s World Cup win over Haiti in Boston
Scotland’s strong start to their historic World Cup campaign was followed by an even more emotional moment off the pitch as goalkeeper Craig Gordon reunited with his wife Summer Harl and their young family after Scotland national team opening victory.
Steve Clarke’s team secured a memorable victory over Haiti in Boston, with John McGinn scored the only goal of the game in what marked Scotland’s first World Cup win in 36 years. While fans at home stayed up into the early hours to watch the results unfold, there was a quieter celebration behind the scenes for the Scotland team and their families.
For Gordon, the game held significance, with his wife Summer and their two-month-old baby Archer in the stands to witness his first WC appearance.
Summer, who traveled to the US with their three children – Ace, Axel and newborn Archer – to support her husband during the tournament, had documented the experience on social media, sharing glimpses of matchday life in Boston.
However, it was the moments after the match that caught the most attention when she posted an emotional photo on Instagram of Craig holding baby Archer for the first time after the match.
Alongside the snap, she revealed how meaningful the reunion was, writing: “And he’s sleeping. Haven’t seen him in 2 weeks and that’s 1/4 of his little life.”
The moment mirrored the reality of an international football tournament where Gordon had spent weeks separated from his family while the Scotland team prepared in camp ahead of the World Cup. Summer had attended the game with Archer and her father, while their older sons stayed at the hotel with their grandmother due to the late 7pm kick-off.
She explained to her followers that the long day made the decision necessary, saying the boys were still getting used to the time difference after arriving in Boston just days early.
“We ended up coming back around 2:30, so it was definitely the right decision. A 12-hour game day,” explained Summer.
Despite the older boys not taking part in the match, Gordon made the most of it the next morning and celebrated the win with his family. He was able to spend time with all three of his sons as they explored Boston together.
Dressed in Scotland kits, Ace and Axel reunited with their goalkeeper dad on a family outing across town with pizza and donuts to celebrate the win and reunion.
Gordon, 43, who is Scotland’s oldest player in the tournament team, has often spoken of the importance of family throughout his career. He shares his children with Summer, whom he married in July 2025 after an eight-year relationship.
The pair first met while working at Celtic TV, where Gordon was the club’s goalkeeper and Summer was a presenter, although their relationship began later after she left the role.
Gordon is also the father of two daughters, Freya and Emma, from a previous marriage.
