More information about the tragic death is forthcoming Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas.

As we’ve covered, the 21-year-old was supposed to be enjoying a bungee jumping excursion in Brazil when her instructors (not pictured above) allegedly forgot to fasten her safety rope. She was kicked out Skeleton Bridge in Limeira, São Paulo, where onlookers noticed shortly afterwards that her rope was not attached. She ended up plummets 131 feet to the groundand when EMTs arrived, she was pronounced dead.

So terrible. But how could such a thing even happen?

Well, new reports are coming in from the local police, per Brazilian business O Globoand they tell an even more detailed story.

As we previously reported, six people were taken into custody after the death of Maria Eduarda. Of the six people, three were told by the business to hand out wristbands at the event and were later released from custody. However, the other three were charged with murder. They were identified as 32-year-olds Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff27-year-old Vitor de Freitas Goncalvesand 42 years old Maicon Fernandes Cintra.

According to the magazine, Maria Eduarda’s fiancé was present at the time of the incident and he watched in horror when he saw what happened. From there, two of the three instructors, who would later be charged, must have fled the scene! Seriously! Reports say they threw this girl off the bridge, noticed her rope wasn’t attached, and RAN.

They were reportedly not even arrested until an aerial search took place and a military helicopter found them in the woods! OMG!

Andréa Dantas Levya deputy of the local police, after being contacted, said the instructors claimed to have had a “blackout” and they say they did not remember whether they attached the rope or not. He explained the business:

“They said they don’t remember where and when the foul happened, who should have put it and didn’t. The third person holding (her) leg said he was only called in to help with the throw.”

Per the outlet, judge Paulo Henrique Stahlberg Natal stated that all three instructors would be kept in custody, on the grounds that two of them tried to escape. He explained that “their freedom could lead to the repetition of equally dangerous behaviour”. If found guilty, they could face anywhere from six to 30 years behind bars.

Another mystery surrounding the case includes a 360º camera that Maria Eduarda appeared to be holding in the videos that led to her being thrown from the bridge. According to the outlet, on top of the $36 fee charged by the instructors to bungee, people who signed up could pay an additional $30 to have a camera take their jump.

Maria Eduarda is believed to have had one of these cameras – but it has not been found and searchers have not been able to locate it at the base of the bridge. Hopefully they can find it soon and get more evidence of what really happened.

Such a terrible situation. We send our love to Maria Eduarda’s family as they deal with this unimaginable grief. May she rest in peace.
