“This week I’ve been accused of burning down a house and contributing to the death of a woman with cancer,” Kat Von D said in a TikTok video posted on Saturday, June 13.
It all started on Thursday, June 11, when a man named Tevo shared a TikTok story suggesting that Kat Von D’s candle neglect contributed to the fire at a house she once rented from her mother, which was featured on her reality show LA ink.
He said his mother decided in 2008 to rent out the castle-style house she owned because she was having money problems. Tevo said he remembered visiting Kat while she was living there and found the way she lived “bizarre”.
“There were candles everywhere!” Tevo said along with lots of revving.
“Shocker, the house was on fire,” Tevo said. He then claims that “arson investigators” determined it was a “candle fire.”
He then went on to say that his family believes that “the stress of the fires, the recovery process and the lawsuit,” is what brought his mother’s cancer back.
He also accused Kat of sending his mother “hateful, hateful emails.” He also called Kat “a liar, a narcissist, really an evil person.” He also said that Kat claimed the house as hers on her TV show, which she was allegedly not allowed to do.
He went on to say that he and his family believed Kat had “dark energy” and says his mother was working on a book about what she went through but didn’t publish it because she was afraid of Kat’s “energy”. Tevo now believes that his mother’s energy will protect him. He also says he doesn’t forgive her.

Kat responded a few days later with receipts. She says she felt “compelled” to make the video.
She said she would be “as respectful as I can be, but it’s hard not to get discouraged”
Kat pointed out that the incident happened almost 16 years ago, she believes
“Teva is accusing me of burning down his mother’s house because I lit candles, which is not true,” says Kat. “I wasn’t even home when it happened. I was on a book tour.”
Kat says Teva’s accusation that Kat made her mother sign an NDA was also “not true.” Kat says she made people sign NDAs, but claims she never gave her mother an NDA to sign after the fire.
She says she rented a “little house” in the Hollywood Hills from a woman named Debra. Kat said she loved because it was used as Frankenstein’s castle from a 1930s movie. “Even though it was small, it was perfect for me and my cat,” says Kat.
Kat believes the fire started from an electrical fire from a recording studio in the house’s basement. She said the “arson official, firefighters who came over to inspect” told them it wasn’t a candle fire, but instead thought it was an electrical fire.
Kat has emails where she shared concerns with Debra about electrical issues after she saw sparks twice. Kat claims that instead of hiring electricians, Debra sent her husband to fix the problem.
“Do I think this could have been avoided? Possibly,” says Kat. “But to go and blame me and my gothic decor. It’s just not right.”
“The fire took everything from me. I literally had nothing,” she continues. “And most importantly, my little kitten Valentine was in the house when the fire started.” Kat says the kitten didn’t burn alive, but was found dead in its bed, most likely killed by smoke inhalation.
Kat then addressed the claim that she had something to do with Teva’s mother’s cancer. “I’m truly sorry for your loss… but at the same time, I didn’t set the house on fire. This was a tragedy and it was out of either of our control.”

@katvond Also… The video was already so long, so I will end here by addressing Teva’s accusations: You were a teenager when I rented from your mother, so I understand you only know what you heard as a child, but I was an adult who had a business manager, as well as a legal team that kept ALL the files and paperwork that I have now reviewed and confirmed since you •filmed your property: mother was made aware that I was filming. In fact, she never had a problem with it until episodes aired after the fire. And when she actually pursued it (contrary to your theory that she was “too tired at the time to pursue”). She went straight to the TLC/Discovery channel as well as the production company that filmed and owned LA Ink. What came of it I have no idea as it wasn’t my business deal to do, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she actually got paid. What I do know is that we checked our lease and nowhere in it did it say I wasn’t allowed to film. But contrary to your accusation, I never claimed to have owned the house. •after the lawsuit between your mom’s insurance company and mine was settled, where your mom got OVER 2x what the entire property was appraised for (hence the beautiful pool addition to the property), your mom sent me a cease and desist from posting the photo of me standing on fire (the same one you used in your video) as well as a tweet that I posted it was an electrical fire. I never got her to sign an NDA, but she absolutely enforced a clause to silence me about what really happened. We have that paperwork too. •Jeffree Star – you have since made a new video saying you are afraid of my “energy” and that you have spoken to Jeffree who claims to “know” what really happened. I already revealed what really happened in my video. So I’m not afraid of you or Jeffree – who is literally famous for publicly lying (especially about me) or attacking anyone with followers to get any public attention he can. We have a long history and honestly it’s exhausting how he just won’t stop making content about me. That movie is getting old. •Finally, I encourage everyone to actually watch Teva’s tik tok @Teva . Go through and see how his whole goal (which he has no problem proclaiming over and over and over again) from the beginning of making an account around this house is to profit from the house. He literally says, “It turns out that having a castle isn’t really that cheap, so I’ll have to figure something out.” So much of his repetitive content uses his mother’s death as an excuse to do photoshoots of himself in wet shirts, and somehow that’s how he says he’s “honoring her.” I’m not the only one who says that. He literally made a video addressing people who have questioned his sincerity in many of his posts. Teva, your mom’s house is beautiful, but you don’t need to publicly attack me to get the attention and business opportunities your house truly deserves. I sincerely hope you find peace.

Teva came back with its own receipts. He says he got his mother’s email login so he has documentation of all the correspondence between lawyers, insurance claims, court preparations and the fire reports.
He started by talking about a candle incident that Kat Von D allegedly had in the house just four months before the massive fire. In the email correspondence Teva shared, Kat claims there was no fire, but that candles set off the smoke alarm, and then neighbors called the fire department.
Kat says she threw away most of her candles after this incident and replaced them with battery-operated flameless candles.

He also showed a report from one of the fire investigators who claimed the cause of the fire was an “unattended candle.” Teva says all the investigators had the same results.

What is known is that in 2012, State Farm defendant Kat Von D for $900,000 because they believed her candles caused the home fire.
