The Beckham family feud has played out publicly for months, although reports suggest tensions had been building long before that. After several years of speculation about a rift between Brooklyn Beckham and his famous parents, David and Victoria Beckhamthe eldest Beckham son appeared to confirm the conflict in a lengthy statement shared via a series of Instagram stories in January 2026.

“I have been silent for years and have made every attempt to keep these matters private,” Brooklyn’s Instagram Stories message began. “Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, so I have no choice but to speak for myself and only tell the truth about some of the lies that have been printed.”

Brooklyn made it clear that he has no plans to make amends with anyone. “I don’t want to reconcile with my family,” he wrote. “I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”

Weeks earlier, it appeared that David and Victoria had tried to extend an olive branch to their eldest son via social media. The parents of Brooklyn, Cruz and Romeo shared a throwback photo of Brooklyn on their Instagram Stories at the turn of the new year. However, the action came after David excluded Brooklyn from a carousel post on Instagram, only adding fuel to speculation of tension in the famous family.

Despite the ongoing rift, David and Victoria appeared to publicly reach out again in March 2026, sharing birthday tributes to Brooklyn on social media as he turned 27, posting throwback photos and messages of love.

Here’s a breakdown of the Beckham family feud and where they stand now.

What happened between Brooklyn and the Beckhams at his wedding to Nicola Peltz?

The rumored drama Nicola Peltz and Brooklyn’s 2022 wedding turned out to be true. In his Instagram Stories message from January 2026, Brooklyn claimed that his mother, Victoria, tried to sabotage his and Nicola’s first dance as a married couple.

“My mom hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song,” Brooklyn claimed, further claiming that Victoria “was waiting to dance with me … She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.”

Brooklyn also accused Victoria of suddenly canceling the production of Nicola’s wedding dress “at the eleventh hour, despite how excited (Nicola) was to wear her design.”

The DJ from the wedding, Cool Tonyconfirmed the “awkward” dance Brooklyn and Victoria shared at the wedding during a subsequent interview on ITV’s This morning.

“Basically, Mark Anthony performed on stage, he then called Brooklyn on stage,” explained Tony. “Brooklyn walked on stage and everyone expected Nicola to come up and do the first dance. Marc Anthony asked ‘the most beautiful woman in the room’ to come on stage and he says, ‘Victoria, come on stage’.”

Tony continued: “Brooklyn’s stuck there on stage and then they do this dance and Marc Anthony likes to say, ‘Put your hands on your mother’s hips’ and it’s Latin, it was a Latin thing. The whole situation was really awkward for everyone in the room.”

Why does Brooklyn Beckham argue with his family?

According to his lengthy statement, Brooklyn is at odds with his family because David and Victoria allegedly “controlled narratives in the press” about them. He also described his parents as image-obsessed.

“Brand Beckham comes first,” he claimed. “Family ‘love’ is determined by how much you post on social media or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo.”

Brooklyn concluded by noting that he and Nicola “don’t want a life shaped by image, press or manipulation. All we want is peace, privacy and happiness for us and for our future family.”

While David and Victoria have not publicly responded to Brooklyn’s remarks, Nicola’s father is a billionaire investor Nelson Peltzhave briefly dealt with the situation. Under The Wall Street Journal‘s Invest Live event in West Palm Beach, Fla., on Feb. 3, he defended his daughter and son-in-law, calling Brooklyn “a great young man” and calling for family matters to be handled privately rather than through the media.

How have David & Victoria Beckham reacted to Brooklyn’s comments?

David and Victoria have refrained from describing what went wrong between them and their son. However, they continue to share public messages and posts on social media with Brooklyn in the photo, such as on Father’s Day in 2026.

Both parents shared recurring photos of their children’s childhood with David. On his page, David wrote that “being a father is my most important job,” while including all of his children in the same Instagram post.
