Becky Hill booed TRNSMT during concert after making ‘worst decision ever’

An audience of drenched fans was not happy with the singer’s choice

Singer Becky Hill left a drenched TRNSMT crowd furious after making a decision that left fans deeply disappointed. Scotland’s biggest music festival started on Friday 19 June at a very rainy start, but conditions luckily cleared in time to see Richard Ashcroft close the show (and take Scotland to lose 1-0 to Morocco).

Hill’s set received a frosty reception from her audience after announcing that she would only be performing “brand new” music. The singer deviated from her familiar hits and instead decided to debut tracks from her upcoming third studio album, Rebecca, due out in September, reports Glasgow live.

Footage posted online by festival goers Clara Martin on TikTok captures the artist, who first found fame on The Voice UK, addressing the audience: “I’m going to play nothing but brand new music for you.

“At some point in every artist’s life, we have to let go of the tunes you know me for and very much introduce you to a whole new era. That’s okay, you’ve got plenty of other artists to see here.”

Her announcement was met with a wave of boos along with some scattered cheers, with reports suggesting several fans walked out of her performance. Social media users were divided over the decision, with one commenting: “Worst idea ever at a festival.”

Another noted: “Sorry, but a festival slot is not the time to just do a set full of new songs.”

A third noted: “She’s not a big enough artist not to play the hits, especially at a festival! Save the new stuff for your own tour.”

A fourth person noted: “Every time you see James Taylor he’s playing Fire and Rain. Every time you see Céline Dion she’s singing the theme from Titanic. Sometimes you just have to accept that people like this song and that’s what’s going to make you money.”

Others rallied behind the artist, with one user stating: “It’s so cruel to her, actually, that boo, like it’s someone up there putting her heart on the line. At least give it a chance and then leave if you want.”

It happens after recordings of a were shared large group of revelers caught in a fight on the festival grounds on Friday evening. The video showed two teenagers punching each other at the big wheel before a steward eventually got involved and broke up the scrap.
