Dwayne Johnson has revealed details of a personal health scare. The Smashing Machine star and former wrestler discovered a painful lump earlier this year. He endured a weekend of quiet worry before seeking answers.

Dwayne Johnson opens up about latest health scare

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson detailed the experience in an interview with Esquire magazine, describing how the episode began on an ordinary Friday earlier this year. He found a lump in his left testicle, but chose to take the worry alone rather than alert his family.

“I didn’t even tell Lauren,” Johnson said, referring to his wife, Lauren Hashian. “I didn’t want to worry her until I knew if it was something to worry about.” But the condition worsened over the weekend.

By Monday morning, the pain had become severe enough that Johnson sat down with his doctor, who offered an initial evaluation of epididymitis. It is an inflammation of the coiled tube that lies behind the testicle. Still, the doctor could not give absolute certainty without further examination.

For Dwayne Johnson, the lingering possibility of a cancer diagnosis turned the next 24 hours into a test of endurance. His doctor recommended an ultrasound the following morning to definitively rule out a tumor. “I’m fine by the way,” Johnson told the publication. “But I didn’t know it at the time and it was really painful.”

It seems the timing complicated the matter considerably. Johnson had committed to attending a Jumanji franchise event that Monday, leaving him with no option but to appear in front of cameras and fans while carrying the weight of an unresolved medical issue. “So I had to live with it for the twenty-four hours without knowing,” he said. “And I had to be on all day, joking around and giving speeches.”

Johnson’s subsequent ultrasound confirmed the inflammation diagnosis, bringing the ordeal to an end. “But! I’m okay. So,” he concluded.
