How Meghan Markle May Be There for Prince Harry’s Reunion with King Charles ‘Changes The Stakes’

Could a long-awaited royal reunion be even more momentous than anyone expected?

That’s the question swirling around Prince Harry‘s reported plans to reconnect with King Charles IIIespecially during speculation about it Meghan Markle could be by his side if the meeting takes place.

According to Page six friday, royal commentator Amanda Matta believes Meghan’s potential involvement would have far more significance than simply attending yet another family gathering.

Matt explained:

“Meghan’s presence would certainly add symbolic weight to any reunion. If Meghan accompanies Harry to the UK or to a meeting with his family, it would signal to the public that any effort to rebuild the relationship extends to the Sussex family as a whole.”

It’s an important point given how much attention has surrounded the ongoing rift between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the rest of the royal family over the past several years. While Meghan’s attendance has not been confirmed, the possibility alone has reignited speculation about whether genuine progress could finally be made behind the castle doors.

Still, Matta does not believe that Meghan herself is the decisive factor in whether reconciliation succeeds. As she put it:

“It just changes the stakes. The challenge of reconciliation has never really been about one person; it’s been about rebuilding trust across the board.”

That trust has certainly been tested. Since Harry and Meghan stepped down from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California, the couple have spoken openly about their experiences within the monarchy through interviews, documentaries and Harry’s memoirs, Spare parts. And these revelations created lasting tension continue to shape perceptions of the family!

Still, Matta suggested that Meghan’s dynamic with King Charles has always been somewhat separate from Harry’s relationship with his father. She noted:

“Historically, there have been indications that Charles made an effort to welcome her into the family, but she has taken a step back in recent years. I see that as an acknowledgment that the Sussexes’ ongoing tensions with the royals actually stem from Harry and his own family.”

She went on to emphasize that Harry’s frustrations predated his marriage, saying:

“The questions he has raised, about press threats and an emotionally suffocating palace environment, existed and were eating away at Harry before he even met Meghan.”

Meanwhile, reports continue to suggest that Harry is eager for his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibetto spend time with their grandfather during an upcoming trip to the UK. Page six reported that Harry “desperately wants” his children to reconnect with the monarch.

And as we have previously noted, Charles has reportedly the Sussex family offered accommodation in a royal residence and even suggested handling logistical arrangements – no small sign of good faith, you know?!

Whether it all comes together remains to be seen. Meghan has not returned to the UK since attending Queen Elizabeth II‘s funeral in September 2022, which would thus make any future appearance particularly noteworthy.

Matta also believes that the public conversation surrounding Harry and Meghan has evolved significantly since the couple last appeared in public together Prince William and Princess Catherine in 2022. She explained:

“The public generally understand that this relationship is incredibly complicated, but they also know more than ever about the way the monarchy works. The biggest risk, in my view, comes from how the palace handles this ‘reversal’.”

In other words, the optics could mean as much as the reunion itself.

If reports of reconciliation are followed by fresh stories of conflict, Matta warns the royal family could face another PR headache. As she concluded:

“If the public sees mixed signals, such as suggestions of reconciliation alongside reports of ongoing or renewed tensions, it would reinforce the impression that the royal family is still navigating unresolved issues behind the scenes — that they can’t get their act together, in other words.”

For now, royal watchers will have to wait and see if this anticipated family reunion actually takes place — and if Meghan ends up joining Harry for a Charles summit.

If she does, it could be one of the most scrutinized royal appearances in years!
