Love Island fans fume over ‘funny’ Lorenzo comment as scene not shown comes to light

Love Island viewers have criticized the OG Islander’s behaviour

Love Island viewers have been left fuming by a ‘disgusting’ unaired scene.

ITV fans have been hooked on Season 13 of the dating experiment since it started two weeks ago. New episodes are broadcast every Sunday to Friday, with the broadcaster treating viewers to a full episode of Unseen Bits every Saturday.

While the bonus section is usually packed with light-hearted scenes that didn’t make the final cut, last night’s (June 13) episode sparked backlash after Lorenzo Alessi made a controversial comment about female drivers.

During a flirty chat, Priya Jaswal shared a funny anecdote about her driving test. She explained that she did not know how to say the word ‘pedestrian’ and only learned its correct pronunciation during the exam.

Lorenzo then asked, “Did you pass your driving test the first time?” To which Priya replied, “First time mate.”

The 28-year-old business owner ruffled feathers with his next comment. “Yeah, you flirted with the director,” he said.

But Priya backtracked and argued, “I was only f*****g 16, I wasn’t good at it (flirting) back then.”

However, Lorenzo went on to explain his stance, adding: “I don’t know about that. I feel like all the girls pass because they just flirt with all the examiners.”

Even when Priya insisted she is “very intelligent”, the Hertfordshire lad still didn’t back down.

He continued: “I know, but I feel like all the girls can disappear at once because they’re flirting. Because boys are better drivers than girls.”

Viewers at home were left disappointed by the scene and took to social media to vent their frustrations.

One Reddit user admitted they were “a bit bothered” by Lorenzo’s comments, before adding: “His comment may be justified as a joke, but even if it is, it still hinges on the sexist idea that women only succeed through flirtation and sex appeal rather than their abilities. Idk, did anyone catch that?”

Over 400 viewers liked the post and more than 100 rushed to add their own verdicts. “He keeps getting away with saying some disgusting sh**t to women and it pisses me off,” one added.

The OG Islander has previously come under fire for branding his former partner Jasmine Muller “promiscuous” and a “sarsy b***h”, just hours after meeting her.

Another chimed in: “That’s such a typical misogynistic comment. I’ve heard it before unfortunately. I’m sure he had no malicious intent, but a harmless joke can still be misogynistic.”

Other viewers are convinced that Lorenzo’s words are being blown out of proportion as he claims that he was just playfully flirting with Priya.

“Haven’t seen the episode, based on the title and the s**t I thought he might have said something crazy lol this wasn’t worth a 100+ comment thread holy s**t lol it was stupid flirty throw away joke from a guy who said taking the p**s out of each other is his love language lol.”

Another viewer defended: “It’s harmless flirting and you see it as an attack,” while a third fan added: “Speaking like Lorenzo is out on the street fighting that women are bad drivers or something. It was a flirtatious comment(…).”
