Caitlin Clark‘s remarkable rise has transformed women’s basketball, but it has also placed her at the center of relentless controversy.
After another physical incident on the field, new insider claims have reignited the debate about jealousy, race and WNBAs handling of its biggest star.
As tensions continue to rise, questions surrounding Clark’s treatment are once again dominating national headlines.
Since entering the WNBA as the No. 1 overall pick in 2024, Caitlin Clark has become one of the league’s biggest attractions. Her arrival has led to record television ratings, increased attendance and created unprecedented awareness for women’s basketball.
Along with that success, however, the Indiana Fever guard has repeatedly found himself involved in very physical encounters on the court.
Fans have watched Clark absorb several hard fouls over the past two seasons, including the much-publicized hip check by Chennedy Carter, a hard foul by Diamond DeShields, a play with DiJonai Carrington that left her with a black eye, and the confrontation with Marina Mabrey.
The most recent incident occurred during Indiana’s matchup against the Phoenix Mercury when Alyssa Thomas made contact with Clark while he was fighting for possession.
Thomas later received a one-game suspension for “recklessly making contact with his fist to the throat area.”
The sequence immediately drew criticism from those who believe Clark has been subjected to overly physical play throughout his young professional career.
Insiders claim jealousy has fueled the controversy

According to a source who spoke to Daily Mailthe ongoing debate extends beyond basketball itself.
The insider claimed: “Unfortunately, jealousy and racism play a big part in all of this, as many believe that Caitlin has been given enormous privilege and attention, not because of her acting, but more because she is the great white hope.”
The same source suggested that Clark has deliberately tried to avoid becoming part of these discussions.
They shared, “She’s wanted to stay away from all that, but it’s the mood of the league right now that’s creating all this drama.”
The insider also claimed there is anger among some players because of the attention Clark received almost immediately after entering the league.
“There are plenty of players around the WNBA who are not fans of Caitlin Clark, and a lot of that stems from the attention and spotlight she received the moment she entered the league,” they said.
The insider continued, “Some veterans felt she was being handed a level of recognition they spent years working for, while some of her fellow rookies and younger stars felt they deserved a similar share of the spotlight.”
The insider added that league officials have tried to avoid appearing biased, noting, “The league has largely tried to remain neutral, in part because it doesn’t want to appear to be giving preferential treatment to any one player.”
The Caitlin Clark incident increases pressure on the WNBA

The latest confrontation has only intensified the public discussion about how the league should respond.
According to Daily Mail source, officials may soon have little choice but to get more involved.
The insider said the WNBA could be forced to “take a more active role in dealing with the situation.”
They continued: “At the same time, conversations surrounding Caitlin have become increasingly heated both on and off the pitch, creating constant controversy and debate.”
The source also suggested that league officials would rather shift attention back to basketball, but acknowledged that distractions continue to grow.
“The league would prefer that the focus remain on basketball, but the distractions have reached a point where many believe some kind of response or action will be necessary sooner rather than later,” they said.
The discussion has since spread beyond basketball circles, with several prominent voices weighing in on Clark’s future.
Former NFL star urges Clark to consider another path
Among those offering opinions was former NFL Most Valuable Player Boomer Esiason.
Speaking on his radio show in New York, Esiason suggested Clark should consider leaving the WNBA altogether.
“If I was Caitlin Clark, I would seriously consider playing overseas somewhere and getting the royal treatment and getting real money,” he said.
He also pointed to Clark’s commercial success away from basketball while arguing that anger remains an issue.
Esiason added, “She’s a straight white basketball player and she’s not being treated with any kind of respect.”
Caitlin Clark stays focused despite the noise
Despite the speculation, the insider insisted that Clark had no intention of walking away from the sport.
“All the noise and criticism has only added another chip to her shoulder, but it hasn’t come close to making her want to walk away,” the source said. Daily Mail.
The insider dismissed comparisons to former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, saying, “Unlike another famous Indianapolis athlete, she’s not about to pull an Andrew Luck and step away from the game.”
Instead, they believe the criticism has strengthened Clark’s resolve.
They noted, “If anything, all of this has fueled her even more. She is determined to use every doubt, every headline and every criticism as motivation to become the player everyone knows she can be – and the player she believes she is.”
Clark’s rough night ended with another concern after she left Indiana’s loss to Phoenix with a back injury.
The All-Star guard, who has dealt with back issues all season, left late in the third quarter after appearing to aggravate the problem earlier in the game.
While the latest setback added to an already turbulent week, those close to Clark believe her focus remains firmly on returning to the court and continuing to prove herself.
