The Pogues lost one of their own in season 4 of Outer Banks. This was confirmed by the popular Netflix adventure series season 5 will be its last season. Now that fans know about JJ’s heartbreaking death, many started begging for an actor Rudy Pankow to pick up a Ward Cameron and find a way to get back. But is that even possible in Season 5?

When do Outer Banks Season 5 coming out?
After season 4 ended in November 2024, the series starred Chase Stokes (playing John B.) shared Outer Banks creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate and Shannon Burkes season 5 message to his Instagram.
“Now, with some sadness but also excitement, we put season four behind us and turn to season five, where we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we envisioned and planned years ago,” the creators’ letter read. “Season five will be our last season and we think it will be our best yet. We hope you’ll join us for another paddle out for the surf break.”
Season 5 of Outer Banks will premiere on August 20, 2026.
Up went Rudy Pankow OBX?
Rudy didn’t give up Outer Banks. During an interview with Netflixthe actor recalled the moment he found out his character would be killed off.
“Once I found out that JJ was going to risk it all and not make it, I understood,” Rudy insisted. “And the risks got bigger and bigger and the stakes got higher and higher.”
Calling his OBX experiencing a “tremendous honor to portray a character so beautiful and selfless,” Rudy added that JJ’s death — while devastating for the Pogues and the fans — begs the question: Is treasure hunting worth risking their lives?
“His death really sets the future for OBX with the question, what’s it worth?” Rudy added. “And when someone close to you is gone, how do you navigate that?”
Is JJ coming back Outer Banks Season 5?
It is unclear how a resurrection could occur OBXlast season. However, countless fans have expressed their support for JJ returning, and some have pointed out Ward Cameron’s comeback in Season 3. In Season 2, Ward (played by the actor) Charles Esten) faked his own death in a boat explosion. When Season 3 revealed that he was still alive, the character took several bullets for his daughter, Sarah, (Madelyn Cline), which gave the complicated character an emotional delivery.
However, JJ’s death appears to be permanent. At the end of season 4, JJ’s girlfriend, Kiara (Madison Bailey) and the rest of the Pogues vow to avenge JJ’s death, apparently by killing Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane).
