Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Marklehave confirmed they will return to the UK with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in July. The family will be in town for the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027.
As the trip approaches, many are wondering whether Meghan and Harry could be moving towards repairing relations with the royal family, with attention on how the Duchess might approach the visit. Here’s what someone who used to work with the prince hopes Meghan does and doesn’t do when she’s back in England.
It was Grant Harrold King Charles’ butler for seven years. Harrold’s duties included valet, housekeeper, house manager and chauffeur. He also looked after Prince William, Catherine and Prince Harry when they lived at Highgrove House. Since leaving the royal household, Harrold has become one of Britain’s leading etiquette experts. In 2025, he published his first book, The Royal Butlerwhich became an Amazon bestseller. He regularly appears on television and offers royal commentary on both current and historical news.
Speaking on behalf of ActionNetworkHarrold told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “(Meghan) definitely shouldn’t be using it for celebrity events. It’s very likely she’ll be invited to things. Being realistic, I think there’s a chance we’ll see her go to a few things and promote herself and her brand. It really wouldn’t be a good idea, and if there’s a possible reunion.”
Harrold continued: “On paper it’s actually not wrong at all. They’re not working members of the royal family anymore and are free to do as they please, but I think it would be a bad look. I think if you read the room it would be an unwelcome move on this occasion.
“If I were her, I’d try to keep as low a profile as possible. I think she and Harry are becoming more aware of it and seem keen to make amends, so maybe she’ll use this trip to build bridges rather than promote the Meghan brand. I’d love it if she went this route, but again, there’s always a chance we’ll see her pop up at a few events.”
Others are also questioning the Duchess’s intentions while in the UK, and a reported stop she is making is raising eyebrows.
A source said Naughty But Nice that Harry and Meghan plan to visit Princess Diana’s grave with their children.
The insider close to the Spencer family shared: “This is about helping Archie and Lilibet feel connected to a grandmother who would have adored them. For Harry, Diana is his mother. But for Meghan, critics claim that Diana has sometimes become part of the brand. People in royal circles worry that any Diana story becomes an emotional lever that makes criticism of Meghan almost impossible.
“This isn’t about headlines for Harry. It’s about making sure his children know the woman he still misses every day. The concern has never been Harry’s motives. People understand why he wants to do this. The concern is whether a deeply personal family moment remains private — or ultimately becomes part of the public narrative.”
