Rod Stewart shares a sweet tribute to wife Penny using his own lyrics

The Maggie May rocker took to Instagram to quote his own lyrics as he wished his wife a happy anniversary

Rod Stewart has shared a touching anniversary tribute to his wife Penny Lancaster. The Maggie May rocker, 81, took to Instagram on Tuesday night to share a photo from his 2007 wedding day with the former model, 55.

Referring to his 1984 hit in the caption, he captioned the snap: “27 years of my life spent with this amazing lady. Happy 19th wedding anniversary my love Penny. Some guys are lucky.”

Sir Rod met his first time third wife Penny at a party at the Dorchester Hotel in 1999 when she was 27 years old and he was 53 at the time. They crossed paths after Penny’s friend dared her to ask the singer for an autograph.

After a brief conversation, Rod offered Penny a job as his tour photographer and took her details. However, his friend reportedly withheld his number from him for six months to ensure the singer was emotionally ready to try dating again following his recent breakup with his second wife, Rachel Hunter.

Rod later asked Penny out on a first date to see the trip photos she had taken and the rest is history.

The couple tied the knot after seven years together in a romantic ceremony in Portofino, Italy.

Prior to their wedding, they welcomed their first son Alistair in 2005 and their second son Aiden arrived later in 2011.

The couple share a large blended family with Rod having eight children across five different women and Penny taking on the role of stepmother to her six older children.

However, Rod’s eldest child Sarah is actually seven years older than Penny after he had her when he was just a teenager and she was adopted.

Rod’s sweet message to his wife comes after he flew to Boston last week to cheer on Scotland at the World Cup.

The star posted a video on a private jet with his eldest son as he announced he was going to watch Scotland’s game against Haiti, which ended 1-0.

In the clip, he said: “Here we are flying to Boston to watch Scotland in the World Cup. It’s been 28 years so these kids.. I’ve told them about (it) but they’ve never been…

“I’ve been to seven World Cups. Argentina, Germany, France, Italy, Mexico, loads of them… this will be my seventh. We want them to get through to the next round and I’ll die a happy man. Come on, Scotland.”

His trip to the US came the day after the rocker pulled out of a concert in California due to illness.

Rod, whose father was Scottish, is known to be a dedicated Scotland national team and Celtic fan.

So he will have been delighted to witness Scotland’s first World Cup win for 36 years on Saturday night after John McGinn’s goal kicked Scotland to the top of Group C.
