Rab C Nesbitt ‘comes out of hibernation’ to wish Scotland well


Comedian Gregor Fisher has sent good luck to Scotland in character as Rab.

Scottish actor and comedian Gregor Fisher has revived his much-loved character Rab C Nesbitt on social media this evening to wish the Scotland football team the best of luck ahead of their match against Morocco this evening (June 19). The Scot claims he will be there in “quite a bit of a mood” and is ready to be part of the celebrations.

Following their 1-0 win against Haiti on Sunday, June 15, the Tartan Army will play their second group stage match in a bid to advance to the knock-out round of WC. While the team currently sits at the top of the group, it is still everything to play for.

Scots across the country will show their support for the team, whether at home, at a watch party or in the pub with friends to enjoy the World Cup atmosphere. Many famous faces have also sent their support to the team ahead of the important match.

One of them is the Rab C Nesbitt star Gregor Fisher. To signal that he has come out of World Cup ‘hibernation’, he took the time to send an amusing message to the Scottish football team just hours before kick-off.

Speaking to the camera, Gregor said: “Hi, it’s me. I’ve come out of hibernation to say a few words to you on this very important evening. I send the Scottish team my very best wishes for a very good hump of the Moroccan party.

“A right good humpin’ there you are. Sending them all best wishes and the rest of it.”

He went on to add: “I’m off for a little refreshment and waiting for the 11 o’clock kick-off. I’ll be with you in spirit… quite a bit of liquor indeed.”

Many fans and friends of the actor have shared their joy after watching the clip. One person wrote: “This is the highlight of the WC. Stay out of hibernation Rab.”

With another adding: “Rab looks better now than he did in the 80s.” A third person also happily wrote: “this just made my night!!! come on Scotland.”

Meanwhile, one social media user said: “Would have loved another Rab C Nesbitt World Cup Special episode.”

This was followed by a fifth commenter who wrote: “Never thought Rab would look this good in 2026. Absolutely hilarious.”

Some people may have struggled to recognize the 72-year-old if they haven’t since his comedy show in the 1990s. After receiving the diagnosis diabetesGregor decided to start listening to his doctor’s advice to lose weight.

Quite happy with no longer be so recognizablehe said recently: “I’ve lost quite a bit of weight because I was told I was diabetic and it would be good if I could lose a few kilos. I actually like not being recognized by people nowadays.”

Along with portraying Glaswegian alcoholic Rab for more than two decades, Gregor has also starred in films such as Love Actually, The Merchant of Venice and Whiskey Galore!
