Ryan Lochte is celebrating a major milestone away from the pool as the Olympic swimming legend is officially engaged to girlfriend Molly Gillihan.
According to TMZLochte proposed last week during a romantic evening at Prime and Pearl in Gainesville, Fla. — the same restaurant where the couple shared their first date. The engagement came as the couple celebrated their recent move to Missouri.
A full circle proposition
Lochte reportedly planned an emotional proposal that celebrated the beginning of their relationship.
The couple followed a trail of red rose petals before arriving at the same booth where they had their first date. Waiting on the table was a card that asked the big question. When Gillihan turned around, she found Lochte down on one knee.
Her answer was an enthusiastic yes.
Photos from the celebration show the newly engaged couple embracing and sharing a kiss inside the restaurant moments after the proposal.
The relationship grew quickly
Lochte and Gillihan first went public with their relationship over the July 4th weekend in 2025 and have now been together for about 14 months.
The couple reportedly started discussing engagement rings just six months into their relationship. While Lochte tried to figure out whether she preferred gold or silver, Gillihan reportedly kept her request simple, focusing more on the meaning behind the ring than the design itself.

“I’m on Cloud 9”
Speaking to TMZ after the engagement, Lochte expressed his excitement to begin the next chapter of his life.
“I’m on cloud 9 she said yes. I’m happy this is my new beginning and I couldn’t do it without her,” he said.
The engagement comes shortly after Lochte shared a heartfelt birthday message to Gillihan on social media, thanking her for helping him navigate one of the most challenging periods of his life.
A new chapter after divorce
The upcoming wedding will be the second marriage for Lochte.
The six-time Olympic gold medalist married Kayla Rae Reid in 2018. Reid filed for divorce in June 2025, listing March 2025 as the date of their separation.
Since then, Lochte has focused on rebuilding both personally and professionally while embracing a fresh start.
Busy year continues
In addition to getting engaged, Lochte recently accepted a coaching position with the men’s swimming program at Missouri State University.
The move marks the latest step in his transition from Olympic athlete to coach and mentor.
Now, alongside his new role on deck, Lochte has another big event to prepare for: a wedding.
