According to Vanity Fairformer workers and freelancers have raised concerns about the workplace culture run at The Unwell Network. The difficult work system maintained in the company has Kaplan as a key figure behind it, no thanks to his very controversial management style.

Some anonymous sources claimed that Kaplan’s management style made employees feel intimidated as he would blow up over minor mistakes that usually resulted in emotional confrontations.

“Behind the scenes there’s this man, her husband, running around wreaking havoc and making people cry and cower in fear,” the source said.

There were also reports of inappropriate remarks and comments in the working environment, which from time to time crossed professional boundaries, and Cooper had no doubts about that.

One former employee said Kaplan was invasive and flirtatious when he would ask questions about their sex life, although she didn’t feel uncomfortable with his ways, it brought some people to tears.

A source close to Cooper also strongly disputed the report US Weeklyand claimed that it tried to follow a preconceived narrative and that no positive stories of employee experiences were included in the final version. Neither Cooper nor Kaplan have publicly responded to the allegations.

Long before allegations of a toxic workplace culture hit The Unwell Network, Cooper had described the network as a business she consciously developed in collaboration with her husband.

During her appearance on the March episode of the “Burnouts” podcast, Cooper noted that the company was born as a result of their combined strength rather than starting from scratch.

At the time, Kaplan had already started running his film and television business, and he used the opportunity of his relationship with Cooper to merge their visions to create a podcasting and media giant.

Cooper explained that the idea behind their collaboration was to build an entertainment empire through an amalgamation of Kaplan’s production and financial assets with her expertise in building podcasts and talent-based content. She explained that Unwell was an attempt to expand beyond one medium to many.

The podcaster further stated that an environment where women can be present was essential to her vision for the company.

She revealed that her biggest lesson in creating a startup and seeing the evolution of roles is the ability of team members to adapt and that flexibility has been necessary throughout her journey.

In April The explosion shared that a TikToker shared a video detailing her uncomfortable encounter with Kaplan during an interview for a director of events at the company about a year and a half ago.

The user, identified as Courtney Babbin, recalled that the final process of the interview was a one-on-one meeting with Kaplan, where everything also took a terrible turn.

Babbin revealed that the conversation quickly became personal, and she was surprised to be asked questions that had little or no connection to the position.

She added that Kaplan’s comments about the employees and the interview environment left her with even more questions about his leadership ability and workplace dynamics.

She continued that Kaplan made sure not to make eye contact with her throughout the interview and was busy fixing her hair in the mirror behind her. Once the interview was completed, Babbin noted that she attempted to contact HR to detail her experience, but her calls were ignored.

However, the TikToker clarified that none of the meetings directly involved Cooper, as her interactions were limited to Kaplan.
