Earlier this month, Vanity Fair published a report that cited 40 sources claiming that the Unwell Network has a toxic workspace. 30 sources, including former and current employees of her company, claimed that her husband, Matt Kaplan, creates a toxic work environment. One freelancer said: “It creates the most toxic work environment I’ve ever seen.”

Another freelancer allegedly said: “Matt will scream the worst things and say the nastiest things to you and Alex will be there next to him and not defend anyone.” Recently, Alix Earl broke up with Unwell abruptly, making these claims related.

But in an interview with The Wall Street JournalCooper denied all the allegations against her husband and her company. She said, “I would say that building a startup, there’s so much growth that comes with it, and I’m extremely proud of what we’ve built at Unwell. I’ll just leave it at this: ‘Don’t believe everything you read on the Internet.’ I think everyone knows that at this point.”

In further questions, she replied that “we’ve done so well with the company; if you go around, so many people are happy to work with them.” She called it a smear campaign for someone’s narrative.

Cooper is looking forward to leaving the controversy behind her as she concluded, “I think the reason I’ve been successful in this business is that I have really thick skin and I’m going to keep pushing forward.” While Cooper denies all the allegations made, the Vanity Fair report sparked a wider discussion about toxic workplace culture.
