Just when we thought this tragedy couldn’t get any worse, details like this come out!
A 21-year-old named Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas (not pictured above) literally plummeted to his death on Saturday after an adventure turned into a nightmare. She was on Ponte do EsqueletoAKA Skeleton Bridgein Limeira, São Paulo, where she participated in a bungee jumping excursion. But it all went horribly, horribly wrong when she was thrown off the bridge without her necessary safety rope on! That means she fell 131 feet with no way to stop!
The video has since gone viral of the shocking incident. You can watch (below), but be aware that some may find it disturbing:

She died on the spot… but not immediately, according to an eyewitness. Oh no…

Nurse Rayza Dias was on the scene at the time of the tragedy. Speaking to the local television network Domingo Espetacular on Sunday, she revealed that she rushed down to the ground to help the bungee jumper. She recalled:
“I scraped my whole hand because there’s a steep slope down there and only a rope for us to climb down. … It was all covered in mud. I kept going down, down, we went all the way.”
And when she came to Mary, she was still alive!
The recreational nurse did her best to comfort Maria as she tried to save her before the first responders arrived. She got emotional and shared:
“I even talked to her. I have a habit of joking and saying, ‘No one dies on my watch.’ And I said to her, ‘Duda (Eduarda), no one dies on my watch.’ Even though I wasn’t on my watch there.”
Wow.
Unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene when first responders arrived. We can’t imagine how scary that fall must have been, but hopefully the company in her final moments brought her some lightness during that scary time.
An investigation is underway into this incident and we hope no more for justice to be done to this poor girl.
