Ohio State is the latest college football program to get its players to try gymnastics in the low season. While it was a well-watched event, I can’t imagine Ryan Day and the coaching staff in Columbus were thrilled with their shenanigans.
What if one of the athletes didn’t land an attempted stunt and got hurt??
Fortunately, it seems like college football players escaped the gymnasium unharmed. They were actually pretty good!
Ohio State women’s gymnastics is consistent.
The gymnastics program at THE Ohio State University is not a consistent national title contender. However, the Buckeyes rarely miss the postseason and typically finish in the middle of the standings in one of the more dominant conferences.
Ohio State most recently claimed sixth place in the Big Ten. It advanced to the finals at the Lexington Regional, but eventually finished fourth to Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Addie Watson is a rising sophomore on the team. She did not participate in 2026 and redshirted, but she is expected to play a vital role for the Buckeyes in the coming years. The Texas native hails from College Station. She finished fourth on the vault and in the top eight in the all-around competition at the high school gymnastics championships in 2024 and 2025. It was a big get for OSU.
Although the spring semester is long over, Watson is still on campus. The knot won’t stop!
Watson recently invited some of his fellow student-athletes to test their gymnastics skills. A group of Ohio State football players (whom I can’t identify without a jersey number) tried their best on the bars, on the floor, on the rings and on the box.
All things considered, it was pretty impressive. Many of the soccer players were already able to return, but a few of them needed an extra boost from a spotter. They were much better than I expected. Their tumbling stunts were quite advanced!
As cool as it is to see this kind of crossover, I can’t imagine Ryan Day and his staff were thrilled to see this video hit social media. Fall camp is not too far away. Summer training is already underway. The last thing he needs is to hear that one of his players was injured while doing flips with the gymnastics team. It could have been a disaster.
Fortunately, much like Bryce Underwood at MichiganThe Buckeyes did not suffer an injury. Exhale, Coach Day!
