Red Dead Redemption 2 official next-gen update has players asking for one fix

Despite being considered a modern classic, Red Dead Redemption 2 has yet to receive a next-gen remaster. In short, it doesn’t desperately need one, with the 2015 action-adventure title by Rockstar still standing the test when it comes to graphics, and you only need to spend five minutes on social media to see people using it as the magnum opus for attention to detail in video games.

But with technology fast forward and the PlayStation 5 rapidly approaching the end of its life, it is titles such as Red Dead Redemption 2 which will see customers flock to buy the next-gen upgrade.

Generates US$725 million in sales from its opening weekend and exceeds lifetime sales of Red Dead Redemption within eight days, Red Dead Redemption 2 was an instant success and there is no doubt that its next gen remaster would do just as well. With such upgrades offering improved graphics and performance, as well as bonus content if we’re lucky, it’s something that fans are all too eager for.

Earlier this year, a fan took over r/rescue redemption to ask a simple question: “If the rumors are true and RDR2 getting a PS5 upgrade, do you expect them to fix Epilogue John’s character model as well?”

The question, of course, refers to the fact that players will take on the role of John Marston after the main events of Red Dead Redemption 2. However, John’s model left a lot to the imagination and certainly didn’t look as graphically enhanced as Arthur did. As such, could a potential remaster give John a much-needed makeover?

Well, fans quickly flocked to the comments to share their thoughts. “I played the first game several times before RDR2. I was totally fine with John in the epilogue, except you could never get his default hairstyle. It wasn’t until this sub that it was pointed out a bunch of times that I started to be a little unhappy with the model. Most players simply won’t notice,” said one user.

However, another user offered an interesting tidbit. “I remember watching a short time where the voice actor for John was talking about how John runs in weird. RDR2, and then he said he realized that this is how he runs in real life. Some easy googling seems to claim he did MoCap for RDR1 likewise. If you look at comparisons between Arthur and John, they have completely different body movements. I don’t disagree that playable John’s face is different than NPC John’s. The playable John looks like Arthur wearing John’s skin.”

At the time of writing, Rockstar has not confirmed an official next-gen remaster for Red Dead Redemption 2, but with remasters and remakes all the rage right now, there’s no doubt it will be around the corner.
