Richard Hammonds new boyfriend has been revealed after Top Gear star called it quits with his wife. Richard reportedly met therapist and divorced mother-of-two Kiki Glen, 53, after splitting with his wife of 23 years, Mindy, with whom he shares two daughters.
Pictured together in Richard’s new hometown of Abergavenny in Wales last week, the pair are said to be taking things slowly but “enjoying each other’s company immensely”.
Richard revealed earlier this month that he is dating again as he discussed his quieter lifestyle following his divorce from Mindy, which centers around cooking, running and strolling through the countryside.
Talking with Mail of the presenter’s new relationship, a source said: “Richard is having fun and really appreciates that he’s lucky to have someone he shares such a spark with.
“He didn’t expect to get into a relationship so quickly, but he’s not complaining. It’s early days, but they’re happy to see where it goes with no pressure.”
The Grand Tour star, who shares daughters Izzy, 25, and Willow, 22, with Mindy, said he eats early alone or with his girlfriend and admitted he’s more than happy to watch TV on a quiet night in.
But according to local residents of Abergavenny, who often spot Richard shopping Waitrose and Morrisonsthe new couple spend much of their time at the local pub.
An employee told the outlet: “They come here all the time, at least ten times since they moved here. He’s a local. We put him away from the front so people don’t see him. He just wants to sit in peace and enjoy a burger.”
Richard appeared to refer to his girlfriend while discussing his home life in a recent interview, giving an insight into how life has changed since his divorce was announced last year.
Richard said of his evenings in a column for the Telegraph: “I tend to eat relatively early. Sometimes it’s just me; sometimes I’m with my girlfriend; sometimes friends are still around. I’m perfectly content with a quiet evening watching TV.”
The comments mark the first time the father-of-two has publicly acknowledged having a girlfriend since the end of his marriage.
Last year was tough for engine expert Richard. In February he lost his father, Alan, while in January he and Mindy confirmed they were ending their marriage. The couple had been together for 28 years and married for 23.
At the time, they stressed that their separation was not caused by others and said they remained committed to their family.
In a joint statement, they said: “Our marriage is coming to an end, but we have had an amazing 28 years together and two incredible daughters… We will always be in each other’s lives and are proud of the family we have created.”
