Shawn Hatosy teases The Pitt Season 3 ahead of filming


Shawn Hatosy can confirm that the production on The Pitt season 3 is almost underway.

“We start filming next week,” Hatosy, 50, said during his appearance on Thursday, June 11. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “I can say that people will be surprised how we start. That’s about all I can say.”

Hatosy made his debut as Dr. Jack Abbot in the opening shot to The Pitt‘s first season, which premiered on HBO in January 2025.

“I guest star in the first episode and I had no idea (it would blow up),” Hatosy said Thursday. “I show up for two minutes and then I just kind of disappear.”

Hatosys’ return later in the season made him a breakout star as fans became obsessed with his dry humor and the way he flirts with everyone in the ER (literally). Hatosy secured the role 2025 Emmy Awards win for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.

“It’s very unexpected but very cool. People on the internet say I’m cool,” Hatosy told the host Jimmy Fallon. “My kids still think I’m a jerk no matter what.”

Hatosy shares three sons – Jordan, 19, Leo, 13, and Finn, 8 – with his wife Kelly Albaneseto whom he has been married since 2010.

Except for his acting The PittHatosy also got a chance to direct the ninth episode of the show’s second season. The actor told Fallon, 51, on Thursday that he will be pulling double duty again.

“I found out I’m going to direct season 3,” Hatosy gushed. “Very cool.”

Hatosy confirmed to Us Weekly exclusively at the end of last month it he would return before The Pitt season 3 despite several cast exits.

“We start in a couple of weeks and I haven’t even read the episode,” he said during a May 31 interview. “It hasn’t been sent, but I know I’ll be back.”

He laughed, “That place wouldn’t work that night without Abbot.”

Speaking of night shift, Us would be remiss not to ask about the potential spinoff series that fans are raving about.

“I think it’s a no-brainer. Obviously, I don’t want to dilute or take anything away from what’s happening on The Pittbut you know there are wonderful characters,” Hatosy shared Us. “There is a completely different universe at night. There is a change of tone.”
