We all know that each Stardew Valley the playthrough begins in the same way as we assume the role of a farmer who travels to the city after learning that they have inherited their grandfather’s farm after his death. But what we do afterwards is entirely up to us, from choosing our farm layout to our appearance and then what you do every day for the rest of your time in the beloved farming simulator.

Well, all that has finally been answered thanks to a brand new release.
Stardew Valley: Before the Farmer does exactly what it says on the tin by giving us a glimpse of the world before we show up. The comic written by Chihiro Sakaida is now available for a respectable $28 and yes, it’s an unofficial Stardew Valley collector’s item. Here’s what the official synopsis reads: “Every story has a beginning… but some go back even further.
“Join the inhabitants of Pelican Town in the year leading up to the new farmer’s arrival in Stardew Valley. This 144-page graphic novel, lovingly written and illustrated by the talented Chihiro Sakaida, follows the villagers’ lives through ups and downs, disappointments and celebrations…as well as the arrival of the Joja Corporation.”
With a 5.5 x 8.5-inch hardcover, customers can also expect a woodgrain-style cover with embossing and gold foil, cream-colored paper with brown ink for a natural look, and both English and Japanese writing throughout. Not only that, but the inside cover doubles as a poster and included with each copy of the book will be a “hand-sealed letter from Grandpa with an embossed Pelican Town seal sticker, along with a beautiful illustration of your new farmhouse!”
