The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced over eight years ago, and since then Bethesda has officially revealed absolutely nothing. Yes, every now and then the studio makes a vague statement about the game’s progress or apologizes for releasing the first announcement trailer so early. But other than that, there has been virtually radio silence. Not even a leak or two has surfaced, showing even the most basic gameplay to appease desperate fans eager for a piece of information.
Of course, Bethesda should wait to reveal anything until it has some meaningful news to share, and leaks should never be released at the expense of the team working hard on a project. Still, fans who have waited an interminably long eight years and will undoubtedly have to wait many more to play latest Elder scrolls game has apparently hit a breaking point as a result of the lack of news. However, it has not affected them in the way one would expect as they had apparently lost their collective mind, TES6 fans start behaving strangely online.
It’s starting to feel like Sheogorath himself has cast a spell on the collective Elder scrolls fandom, as the latest posts on The Elder Scrolls 6’s subreddit has been extraordinarily strange. After waiting forever for even the smallest of The Elder Scroll 6’s teasingthe game’s subreddit has unanimously decided to just pretend the game is out. Several posts have appeared with players acting like they’ve played the game, sharing fake screenshots, news of upcoming mods and DLC, and posts shaming people by acting like it’s not out, jokingly of course.
Honestly, it’s pretty brilliant if it’s a little out there. The way almost everyone in society has come together to buy into this joke is actually very endearing. It’s certainly better than the vitriol that can arise when a fandom is forced to wait a little too long and perhaps illustrative of how devoted TEST fans actually are.
It is not very surprising that the same people who have dedicated years of their lives to update their favorite Elder scrolls play through mods finds the light and fun in the lack of updates after eight years. Of course, that still begs the question of when TES6 will actually release.
When will Bethesda’s next game launch?
It’s looking increasingly likely that Bethesda’s next game will be The Elder Scrolls 6. Of course, it is always possible that a secret Fallout title or an entirely new IP will be launched before it, but given that TES6 has actually been announced and no other Bethesda project has, there’s a better chance fans will get their hands on what’s next Elder scrolls first. That said, Bethesda has yet to announce The Elder Scrolls 6’s publication datedespite fans speculating wildly online.
The most likely scenario is that The Elder Scrolls 6 coming out sometime in 2028. Todd Howard told Game Informer back in December 2025, that The Elder Scrolls 6 was”it’s going really well“confirms it”the majority of the study is at (TES)6.“That’s great news, but given the lack of any kind of marketing, gameplay, or even a single screenshot, combined with the continued development of Starfieldit is probable TES6despite being in production for a while, is still a few years away.
There are of course all possibilities for that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be released sooner (just not as soon as its subreddit pretends it has) and that we’ll all be exploring its open world before long. While 2026 is absolutely out of the question, especially with GTA 6 dominates the latter half of the year, 2027 is still a possibility. It remains to be seen, but until we get confirmation when The Elder Scrolls 6 publisher from Bethesda, it’s better to act a little silly, like the aforementioned subreddit, and find the humor in this absurdly long wait.
