The Tartan Army has been introduced to Waymo cars and the reactions are priceless
A group of Scotland fans have gotten a taste of modern technology in Miami after a hilarious encounter with a self-driving taxi left them in fits of laughter.
The Tartan army has been out in Florida this week as thousands of supporters traveled to the Sunshine State ahead of Scotland’s final Group C game against Brazil. While the match ended with a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Steve Clarke’s sitespirits among fans have remained high as they continue to enjoy all that America has to offer.
Among the highlights of the traveling Scotland supporters’ trip to America for the World Cup has been bagpipes playing at 6:30, a takeover of Boston subway and lively scenes at baseball games in both Miami and Boston.
Now another viral moment has emerged with a new clip showing Scotland fans trying out Waymo, the US self-driving taxi service. The clip, shared on Instagram by the American social media user Ryan McGearyhas amassed more than 360,000 views and 20,000 likes with the caption: “Giving the Tartan Army their first experience with self-driving vehicles, they loved it! So much fun!”
Starting the video Ryan, who has gained attention online after following the Tartan Army’s antics through the group stage in both Boston and Miami, telling viewers: “This is Scotland’s autonomous taxi trial, Waymo. A self-driving vehicle, here we go.”
When the driverless car stops, the group is immediately in disbelief and bursts into laughter. One fan calls the situation “mental”, while another jokes: “I’m not the if**king front, that’s for sure.”
Once inside the vehicle, confusion quickly turns to amusement, with a Scotsman laughing before shouting: “What the hell is going on here.”
The group can be seen laughing throughout the journey as they play music through the car’s speakers, including the iconic Yes Sir, I Can Boogie by Baccara, which quickly turns the taxi into a full song.
Asked what they made of the experience, one Scot said: “Is it the future?” While another asks the so-called ‘driver’: “What time do you finish tonight?” A question often asked by Scots when they jump into a taxi at 02.00.
At the end of the ride, the group is asked for their verdict, with one replying, “It was so much fun,” before breaking into chants of “No Waymo, No Party.”
Although the fun didn’t stop there as the fans later hopped into another self-driving taxi for another trip back to South Beach. In the clip, the group is seen running towards the vehicle, with one hysterically shouting: “Stop ya ba****d” at the non-existent driver.

While another Scot shouts: “I’ll get behind the driver, this time” before getting into the back seat.
Inside the car, the song continues with I’m on My Way by The Proclaimers blasting out as the group once again sings their now famous line: “No Waymo, No Party.”
The clip has gone viral and social media users can’t get enough of the hilarious interaction, with hundreds of viewers praising the Tartan Army’s ability to turn even a driverless taxi ride into a party.
One person wrote: “You can always count on the Scots to have a laugh,” while an America who clearly loved both the Scots and the video stated: “Take me back with you!! Scotland on the way!!”
A third user praised the Scots’ bravery for trying out the driverless car, admitting: “Brave boys! Not enough alcohol for me to try.”
One American even suggested Waymo should use the footage as part of an advertising campaign, writing: “If this company doesn’t use this as an add-on and give them Scots some kind of credit, they’re missing a huge opportunity. It’s great.”
