“I hope I can win back the fans I had.”

Wyndham Clark has quickly become one of the most recognizable names in professional golf, but not just because of his success on the course.
After his breakout year in 2023, in which he won his first PGA Tour title in May and his first championship at the US Open the following month, the golfer has been embroiled in numerous controversies.

Wyndham Clark damaged lockers at the 2025 US Open during an emotional outburst

After a disappointing finish at the 2025 US Open at Oakmont, Clark damaged several lockers in what he called a “moment of rage”.
Images of the injury quickly circulated on social media, with Clark responding to a question about the incident this year.
“I’ve had a lot of grief since last year, rightfully so,” Clark said. “What’s unfortunate is that it’s not who I am, what happened last year. I hope I can win back the fans I had or some new fans because it was a terrible incident.”

“I really feel like I can show people that I’m fun and outgoing, I’m tough, competitive, love the game, respect the game and I just had a bad moment. Hopefully I can win those people back. I definitely feel like I’m in a better place. Hopefully a great weekend and a good rest of the year, maybe I’ll get all those fans back.”

Wyndham Clark’s outbursts are not confined to the dressing room.
Clark has also been criticized for his behavior on the green. For a sport that typically prides itself on calmness and etiquette, the golfer has been known to throw clubs after bad shots, show emotional reactions after missed putts and more.
The behavior has led many fans to call on golf tournaments to begin fining players who behave inappropriately.
“Me when my friend says he’s not a Wyndham Clark fan because of his character but I know he’s a huge Tiger Woods fan,” one person tweeted before another added: “As the old heads used to say, I’d rather have a sister in a wh–ehouse than Wyndham Clark win this tournament.”

Recently, Wyndham Clark got involved in a public beef with Baker Mayfield.
Clark prevailed at Shinnecock this weekend amid a chorus of boos for his past behavior. After the win, an old tweet where the golfer expressed his hatred for the NFL quarterback Baker Mayfield quickly reappeared.
Clark recently appeared in an episode of Excuse my bid podcast to counter the speculation.
“I’m trying to decide if I should tell the story,” Clark explained. “Try it, I don’t care. People already hate me … My boyfriend at the time cheated on me with Baker Mayfield … I’m actually a Baker fan now. I think he’s a homie. You know, that’s your first response, like fuck that guy. But really, it’s like shit you know (his ex-girlfriend). So I’m a Baker fan now, but that’s where it came from.”
We’re glad Clark was able to shut down a controversy, though there’s no doubt a lot more where it came from.
