Sometimes Jinger Duggar still can’t believe she’s been married to Jeremy Vuolo for nearly a decade.
“I think there was probably some of that in me when we got married,” Duggar, 32, recalled on the Wednesday, June 10, episode of the couple’s podcastreferring to the concept of perfectionism. “I think I still had a lot of that in me (from 19 Children and counting and Counting on) where I was trying to perform (and) have it all.”
She continued: “I think when I look at it, I’m amazed that you even married me, because I think it was really God who allowed you to marry me and helped me see that I don’t have to be like that, I don’t have to act … and my heart was real and wanted to do what was right, but I also had the other side of it where it was like trying to make everyone happy all the time.”
Duggar and Vuolo, 38, got married in 2016 after complying with his family’s courtship tradition. The couple eventually began to distance themselves from the strict, conservative religious teachings that Duggar’s family followed throughout her childhood.
“Jer came on and I think my hesitation was mainly because he was out of my world,” Duggar previously told Us Weekly in 2023. “It can be a terrible thing when you’re in that culture. I had such confidence though. I remember coming back (from a date) and saying to my mom, ‘I feel so comfortable with him. Like he’s everything I’ve ever wanted.’
She added at the time: “He wasn’t in our environment, which is just crazy to think about, but he loved God and he was committed to the Word of God and lived his life according to it. And that’s when I found, ‘OK, this guy is a great guy.’ That’s exactly what I’ve been wanting.”
Vuolo, for his part, also felt secure in his connection with Counting on alum despite any differences.
“I wasn’t nervous about marrying you, (but) I was very nervous about getting married,” he said Wednesday. “There’s no way to prepare for what happens in marriage. All my wildest dreams couldn’t have been compared to what marriage has been, but I was very nervous about getting married growing up because I’d seen so many marriages explode.”
Duggar and Vuolo welcomed daughters Felicity and Evangeline in 2018 and 2020, respectively, and son Finnegan in 2025.
