For context, the MTV Instagram account shared two pictures of Taylor have fun sitting courtside cheering on the Knicks with longtime fan Mariska Hargitay. The first picture shows Mariska looking exhausted as she leans on Taylor and the second shows the two jumping in the air and cheering.
Selena wrote “lol” in the comment box, and one screenshot of it made it look like it was in response to the other picture of Taylor and Mariska jumping for joy (embedded below), which left some fans scratching their heads. Some felt it looked like she was shady mod Taylor.
Late Thursday night, Selena shared a new one Instagram story handle the dispute.
“Woke up to so many texts. I would never insult my friends and it wasn’t an insult either,” she said. “The comment was a reaction to the first slide on the page.”
The “first slide” on the record was that of Mariska looks stunned, probably by the Knicks’ historic comeback, which Taylor hugged her, as shown in the picture below.
“Second, I bet my friends on the game. The friends in the text chain I posted. I lost, but poked my opponents, my friends. Believe it or not, I have other friends in my life. But quickly forget that most people assume otherwise. too.. It’s a basketball game,” she concluded.
The second screen Selena reviewer, referring to a text chain, also appeared online, though she appeared to delete it relatively quickly.
That photo showed the “Lose You to Love Me” singer posting a screenshot of an article with the words: “So much respect for the game! Congrats to the peeps representing! What a come back,” followed by, “so funny how some are fans all of a sudden though lol.” The screenshot can be seen here.
That comment led people to believe Selena took aim at Taylor and Hailey Bieberwho was also present at the match.
Between the text chain screenshot and the MTV post comment, fans are starting to theorize that Selena shadowed her close friend, so she took to her social media account to clear up the confusion.
