Lukas Gage opens up to speak out about sexual health.
The 31-year-old actor attended the second annual Men’s Health Lab hosted by Hearst Magazines on Tuesday (June 16) at Hearst Tower in New York City.
At the event, Lukas joined in Men’s health managing editor Kengo Tsutsumi and Infectious Disease Specialist and Health Equity Researcher at NYU Langone Health Ofole Mgbako, MD for a conversation about the importance of talking openly about sexual health.
“For me, owning my sexual health is being proactive,” the actor shared. “That means taking care of all my preventative options, like getting tested, wearing condoms and of course (being) on PrEP. And it’s also just to remind myself that sex should be something that’s fun and something that we enjoy.”
Lukas also said he “accidentally became an advocate” for sexual health “in the first roles I did,” including The white lotuswhere he “had sex and had my ass in every single show I’ve been on. I feel lucky that I was pretty comfortable with that at an early age.”
In his memoir, “I wrote this for attention,” Lukas shared his own experience with STDs and the shock, it got so much attention.
“I was so shocked that it was the biggest coverage I got on this book because so many people came forward and said they had similar experiences,” he said at the event.
He also talked about talking to your partners about your sexual health.
“I think it’s really attractive to talk about your sexual health and all these uncomfortable topics with your partner,” Lukas shared. “Trust and honesty are one of the biggest foundations of a working relationship, so now I’m leaning into that discomfort, I think it’s kind of sexy.”
In addition, it helps him to be more free.
“By being proactive about my sexual health, I can actually have more fun and more freedom in it.”
Apparently right after joining the Men’s Health Lab, Lukas hopped on a plane to Los Angeles, for later that evening he was on the red carpet at the premiere of his new movie Voicemails for Isabelle in Hollywood!
